Zarinah El-Amin Naeem

Founded in 2007, Niyah is a publishing and creative-living company that inspires and uplifts the soul.  We publish books and goods of value that inform, entertain and motivate action.  We also provide a varied program of art, cultural and travel events centered on topics found in our books. 

Niyah is founded and led by Zarinah El-Amin Naeem whose fierce work ethic, international experience, open heart, and diverse knowlege base brings a unique sense of creativity to our work. Zarinah has traveled around the world and has been an organizer of domestic and international community projects for several years.   She is passionate about writing and community. 

The name Niyah comes from the Arabic meaning of "intentions" and the Kwanzaa principle of "purpose."  We chose the name to always remind us and others to purify our intentions before undertaking any action.  Positive Niyah (nee-ya) or good intentions + hard work = a good life... The Niyah Company works to “Enliven the Souls” of our communities.

NIYAH DIVISIONS

Niyah Press is Niyah's imprint that publishes ethnographical and instructional books that inspire, enliven, and uplift readers' souls.  We help people make better decisions and speak to current issues facing the community.  Our debut title, "Jihad of the Soul: Singlehood and the Search for Love in Muslim America" by Niyah founder Zarinah El-Amin Naeem, is an anthropological exploration into the lived experience of single Muslim young adults. It's goal is to raise awareness of issues and to provide a platform for discussion and transformational change.

Niyah Good Life Foundation is supported through Niyah's profits and friends of Niyah.  Every month, Niyah designates one FOUNDATION PRODUCT and donates 100% of the profits from that product to the charity.  In addition, a minimum of 10% of profits goes to the foundation and other organizations like the ILM Foundation.  The foundation currently supports girls education in Sierra Leone and runs Operation Clean Water, a project to dig community water wells in Sierra Leone.  To whom much is given, much is required.

LINKS is Niyah's signature annual social networking event for Muslims of all backgrounds and those who want to do business with Muslims.  Mixing structured networking with an old fashioned game night, LINKS participants walk away with new positive connections, potential customers and an enlivening experience! It's a chance to have fun in a clean environment while strengthening the community.

CULTUREART WORKSHOPS.  NIYAH organizes personal development and cultural workshops on various topics including:

Beautifully Wrapped - one of our most sought after workshops.  Zarinah, a master headwrapper teaches participants the art and culture of wrapping everyday styles as well as more flamboyant evening styles. 

Our "Doing the Inner Work: Overcoming Personal Challenges to Realize our Full Potential"  workshop has helped several people begin to relaim their lives and make important changes to develop.  

Zarinah is also a frequent speaker on anthropology, African culture, college preparation, American Muslim identity, singlehood and entrepreneurship.
