Our 2013 Calendars Support the 10,000 Girls Program of Senegal, West Africa
Our major goal this year is to promote educational and economical opportunities for women globally. Proceeds from the sale of our 2013 calendars go to support 10,000 Girls, a program for girls in rural Senegal founded by Sister Dr. Viola Vaughn. 10,000 Girls includes an Environmental Learning Center with agricultural production, afterschool programs, a bakery, and sewing boutique.....all projects designed and run BY THE GIRLS to have a lasting impact. We invest in them because we believe in their mission and we've seen their results.
Senegal has a population of roughly 9.8 Million people. 94% being Muslim. The 10,000 Girls program is extremely important for the young women of Senegal. In coupling entrepreneurship with educational reinforcement, girls support themselves through their own work efforts. By assigning themselves specific tasks which they must accomplish, the completion of the project is ensured, while also teaching girls self-sufficiency, self-reliance, personal responsibility and management skills. 10,000 Girls makes it possible for them to earn money right where they are, thus retaining girls in their own home villages. It also provides them real sources of income, besides selling ice, snacks, breakfast sandwiches, or other local-market activities that bring in tiny incomes for village women. When girls have a place to study, time to study, books and basic supplies, they can succeed.

NIYAH is a publishing and creative-living company that inspires and uplifts the soul. We publish books and goods of purpose that inform, entertain and motivate action. Before embarking on any project, we ask the question, "Why are we doing this and how does it benefit society?" We pray that through this process, our work will always be of value. |
